Biography

Since starting out in about 2003, Alex has been working in film, TV and commercials as a writer, director and editor. His primary passion is as a writer, conceiving ideas drawn from the weird and wonderful, using big concepts to tell stories with humour and emotional depth. He’s had two feature projects funded through development by Creative England, projects funded by The British Council, and has attended multiple European development labs - including Torino Film Lab, Binger, Eureka Series and Berlin Talent Campus. He has worked with script advisors Kate Leys, Celine Haddad and Molly Stensgaard. Recently, he has been writing a feature treatment for Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi and is currently in the process of securing funding for a comedy feature with Artemisia films, and pitching a TV comedy series developed at Eureka Series. He also works as a director, bringing these stories to life. He has written and directed many short films, some of them playing and winning at international film festivals, including Clermont-Ferrand, Aspen and Encounters. He had his short film Oedipus broadcast on the BBC, Prince of Denmark on the British Council and Guardian websites, and You Seen My Goat on Dazed. He has also worked as a TV commercial director in London, Paris and Madrid, having done spots for Carrefour, Ikea and Toyota. Supplementing each of these is his career as a broadcast editor. Over ten years working for Netflix and across the major UK channels on prime time programmes yielding millions of viewers and BAFTA and GRIERSON nominations, has shaped his story-telling abilities and in-depth understanding of the filmmaking process.
