Rafael Afonso was born in Lisbon in 1997. He finished his degree in Screenwriting at Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema in 2018 (while also studying Editing for the first two years). In 2008 and 2009, he won 2nd place ex-aequo in a Portuguese children’s and youth literature competition (fiction modality), having his short stories published. In 2017, he was part of the Universities Jury of the IndieLisboa film festival. In 2022, Rafael was a part of the MAFIZ – Málaga Talent Section workshop.
He has worked for Ukbar Filmes since 2018, and since 2019, he's been an AD in projects like "24 Land", "Doce/Bem Bom", "The Good Crooks' Chronicles", "Heart Of Stone" and the Netflix series, "Turn of the Tide" (TOP10 in +30 countries). In 2024, he was one of the writers of the feature “Cândido”; he won the developing fund from ICA for “We Should Talk About It...”; and is set to write the historical series "Marquise of Alorna".
