Biography

Subsequent to his collaboration with Icelandic director Fridrik Thór Fridriksson regarding his Oscar-nominated feature „Children of Nature“ (distribution and world sales ) Peter Rommel founded Peter Rommel Productions (now Rommel Film) initially to co-produce international cinema features. The feature „Nachtgestalten“ constituted the first fully self-developed producti-on. Further collaborations with Andreas Dresen were „Halbe Treppe“ (Grillpoint, 2002) „Sommer vorm Balkon“ (Summer in Berlin, 2005) and „Wolke 9“  (Cloud 9, 2008), and “Halt auf freier Strecke” (Stopped on Track, 2011). In 1996 he founded the production company Home Run Pictures, realizing coproductions like „Henker (The Headsman by Simon Aeby) and „Lost Killers“ (director: Dito Tsintsadze), and Valeska Grisebach’s „Sehnsucht“. In 2004 he founded with international partners Shotgun Pictures, specializing on financing and coproducing international low-budget features like „Open Water 2“ (director: Hans Horn)  and „Princess“ (director: Anders Morgenthaler). He was „Producer on the Move“ at the Cannes Film Festival in 2002. He is a visiting lecturer at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg and the Ger-man-French Masterclass, group leader for EAVE and is teaching at the Deut-sche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin. Peter Rommel is member of the European Film Academy.
