Biography

François d'Artemare established in 1996 the Portuguese film company Filmes do Tejo, nowadays running a library of more than 70 titles and among them many debut films asMargarida Cardoso’s, Serge Trefaut’s, Inês de Medeiros’s and João Salaviza. He produced with the Paris-based company Les Films de l’Après-Midi he founded in 2001 the three feature by Manoel de Oliveira : CHRISTOPHER COLOMBUS, THE ENIGMA – 2007 ; ECCENTRICITIES OF A BLOND-HAIR GIRL – 2009 ; THE STRANGE CASE OF ANGELICA – 2010). With Les Films de l’Après-Midi he produced films from all over the world: Bosnia (SNOW by Aida Begic – Critics’ Week Grand Prix Award, Cannes 2008 – CHILDREN OF SARAJEVO – Mention of the Jury Un Certain Regard, Cannes 2012), Angola (THE HERO by Zeze Gamboa - World Cinema Dramatic Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival 2005), Portugal (MONTANHA by João Salaviza presented at Venice 2015 ; SAINT GEORGE by Marco Martins, presented at Venice 2016 ; Fatima by João Canijo, presented at Rotterdam), Romania (ONE FLOOR BELOW by Radu Muntean , presented at UCR at Cannes 2015 ; ALICE T. presented at Locarno 2018), Ethiopia (NEW EYES by Hiwot Admasu Getaneh, presented at Orizzonti Venice and TIFF 2015), Iran (DRUM by Keywan Karimi, presented at Venice 2016), Bangladesh (MADE IN BANGLADESH by Rubaiyat Hossein, presented at TIFF 2019), Tunisia (NOURA’S DREAM by Hinde Boujemaa, presented at TIFF 2019) He now develops the feature films of Marco Martins, Angela Schanelec, Claire Simon, Diana Saqueb Jamal, Mohamed Siam, Meriem Mesraoua, and many more.
