Rani Massalha started his career in the cinema industry at the production company Misr International Films, created by Youssef Chahine and based in Cairo, Egypt. After assisting French director Rachid Bouchareb (Outside the Law, 2009), Rani Massalha directed and co-produced a short film in 2012, Elvis of Nazareth (Unifrance jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012). Elvis of Nazareth was bought by Canal + and BBC. Rani Massalha directed and coproduced his first feature film, Girafada, in 2012. Starring Saleh Bakri, Girafada had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013 and travelled to numerous festivals around the world. It was released in France in April 2014 by Pyramide.
