Born in Zurich in 1986, Tamer Ruggli spent his childhood and adolescence in Kinshasa (Zaire), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), as well as in Vienna (Austria). Back in Switzerland, he graduated from a bilingual Arts High School in Zurich before starting his film studies at the ECAL (École cantonale d'art de Lausanne).
With a Swiss father and an Egyptian mother, Tamer always grew up between both cultures. This cultural richness has shaped him immensely, especially his connection to the women from his childhood, who still influence and inspire his work.
His short films "Cappuccino" and "Hazel" were presented and awarded at numerous International Film Festivals around the world.
In 2014, he obtained a scholarship from the Berner Filmförderung (ProCinéma Berne), allowing him to deepen his screenwriting skills during an artistic stay at the New York Film Academy in New York. In 2016 he also received a scholarship from the SSA (Société Suisse des Auteurs) for the development of his first feature "Peau de vache" ("Wahashtini"), which is currently in pre-production.
