Biography

Nara Normande (1986) was born in Guaxuma and later moved to Recife, where a new generation of Brazilian directors was about to rise. In 2011 she directed Dia Estrelado (Festival de Havana) and co-directed with Tião in 2014 Sem Coração which won the Illy Prize at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight. In 2018, her animated short Guaxuma co-produced with France mixes several animation techniques connected to sand and was selected to Annecy’s, IDFA and Toronto’s competition. The short won important prizes such as best animated short at SXSW, Ottawa IAFF and Guadalajara and was selected for the César 2020. She is developing her first feature, Heartless, co-directed by filmmaker Tião, produced by Emilie Lesclaux in Brazil, Les Valseurs in France and Komplizen Film in Germany.
