Biography

Simone Bachini, born in 1969 is the sole director of Apapaja Srl. A graduate in Molecular Biology, he worked in film as an editor between 2000 and 2002, leading to him meeting director Giorgio Diritti. It was together with Diritti and Mario Brenta that he decided to set up Aranciafilm Srl in 2003. Their collaboration began with the production of Diritti's documentary CON I MIEI OCCHI (With My Own Eyes), and continued with the feature film IL VENTO FA IL SUO GIRO (The Wind Blows Round) in 2005, where Simone took on the roles of producer and executive producer. The film received nominations for Best Producer and Best Film at the 2008 David di Donatello awards. Between 2006 and 2008 Simone co-produced Davide Cocchi's documentary L’UOMO CHE SCONFISSE IL BOOGIE (The Man Who Defeated The Boogie-Woogie) and was co-author, producer and executive producer for Diritti's PIAZZÀTI (Kids For Rent). During this time Aranciafilm also got involved in distribution, with Simone handling the national release for the previously mentioned IL VENTO FA IL SUO GIRO and the film JIMMY DELLA COLLINA (Jimmy of the Hill), directed by Enrico Pau. L’UOMO CHE VERRÀ (The Man Who Will Come), Diritti's second feature-length film, won the Grand Jury Award, the Audience Award for Best Film, and “La meglio gioventù” Award for Best Film at the Rome Film Festival, 2009. Alongside Diritti, Simone Bachini took home awards for Best Film and Best Producer at the 2010 David di Donatello Awards and Best Producer at the Nastri d’Argento Awards for the film. Simone also won the Ciak d’Oro and the Stefano Pittaluga prize for best producer in the same year. Diritti's latest film, UN GIORNO DEVI ANDARE (There Will Come a Day), invited to the World Cinema Dramatic Competition of the 2013 edition of the Sundance Film Festival, a co-production with Lumière&Co. and the French Groupe Deux Sarl, is his latest work as producer in Aranciafilm. He has been a Voting Member of the Italian Accademia David di Donatello since 2008 and of the European Film Academy since 2010. In the same year he was identified as Producer on the Move for Italy. In 2012 he was selected for ACE22 (Atéliers du Cinema Européen) for the development of his feature film project Il cuore è uno zingaro (Gipsy Heart). He founded Apapaja Srl in April 2012. The first productions of the company are the documentaries FEDELE ALLA LINEA. GIOVANNI LINDO FERRETTI (Faithful to the Line) by Germano Maccioni , realized with Articolture Srl, and IL TRENO VA A MOSCA (The Train to Moscow) by Federico Ferrone e Michele Manzolini, realized with Kiné and Vez Film, selected for the international competition at the 2013 edition of the Torino Film Festival and in 2014 at the 49th Karlovy Vary Film Festival. In September 2014 he worked at the Executive Production of the italian tranche of the movie BY THE RAILS (Dincolo de calea ferata) by Cătălin Mitlescu, produced by Strada Film (RO) and The Chimney Pot (SE). Recently the Company completed the feature documentary by Enrica Viola, BORSALINO CITY, coproduced with Unafilm (IT) and with the support of Media, Les Films d’Ici (FR), Rai Cinema and Arte. The film get the National release in February 2016 with Istituto Luce – Cinecittà Distribution, after the first Festival screening at the 33° Torino Film Festival. Now is working on post production of the second Roberto San Pietro feature film, IL VEGETARIANO (The Vegetarian), that will be ready in late 2016. The works in progress are also IL MONDO IN CAMERA (The world in a Camera), a short documentary film by Mauro Bartoli, that got the support of the National Film Fund from MiBACT and the Regional Emilia Romagna Fund, and the first feature LA COSA MIGLIORE (The Best Reward), by Federico Ferrone, selected for the 2016 Torino Film Lab Script&Pitch section. Simone Bachini is also head of the "Develpment and Production" Area of the creative writing school Bottega Finzioni Srl., where he realized QUALCOSA DI NOI, a documentary directed by Wilma Labate, selected at the 2014 edition of the Torino Film Festival. Recently, Simone supervised the production of two seasons of MUSE INQUIETANTI, an orginal TV Format written by Bottega Finzioni for SkyArteHD, with Carlo Lucarelli, and Profondo Nero, for the Crime Investigation Channel, Fox Italy.
