Biography

After graduating cum laude in Classic Philology - Near-East Studies at Università di Torino, Carlo Cresto-Dina worked as free-lance journalist and producer for radio and TV public channels across Europe. In 1999 he created the documentary and short film section of Fandango Films in Rome under which he produced a number of award-winning feature documentaries and debut films including I For India (2004) by Sandhya Suri, which premiered at Sundance and was listed by the New York Times “10 Best film of the year”. Other titles include Calle 54 (2001) by Academy Award Winner Fernando Trueba, Super 8 Stories (2002) by Emir Kusturica and the international hit Tickets (2005) directed by Ken Loach, Abbas Kiarostami and Ermanno Olmi. In 2009 Carlo Cresto-Dina founded tempesta, a new film production company based in London and Bologna. Tempesta produced all of Alice Rohrwacher’s features and shorts: Corpo Celeste (Cannes 2011), The Wonders, (Jury Gran Prix Cannes 2014) and Happy as Lazzaro (“best script” Cannes 2018, 4 nominations including Best Film EFA 2018). Tempesta’s productions include Leonardo Di Costanzo’s L’intervallo (Venice 2012), The intruder (Quinzaine Cannes 2017) and The inner cage, Ordinary Justice (Berlinale 2020) and Swing Ride (Berlinale 2022) by Chiara Bellosi plus a string of successful features by young European directors. Tempesta’s London company produced with Cowboy Films, Wildfire Cathy Brady’s debut feature (Toronto Film Festival 2020, IWR Future Award at London Film Festival 2020, “best script” and “best female leading actor” IFTA 2021) TV projects include Studio Battaglia (adaptation of Aby Morgan’s BCC series The Split) and Once upon a time in the future the first TV series written and directed by Alice Rohrwacher.
