A former film specialist solicitor with London entertainment firm Davenport Lyons, Carlo is the founder and Managing Director of Aria Films, an integrated production, financing and consultancy outfit. Having executive produced several features including Marcus Adams’s Buena Vista thriller ‘Octane’ starring Madeleine Stowe and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, and Peter Greenaway’s trilogy ‘The Tulse Luper Suitcases’, in 2006 Carlo produced the award-winning debut of commercial director Gareth Maxwell Roberts ‘Kill Kill Faster Faster’ (Best International Feature Award at the prestigious 2008 London Independent Film Festival and Best Independent Feature at the 2008 London Charity Erotic Awards). Subsequent co-productions include Peter Greenaway’s latest feature ‘Nightwatching’ starring Martin Freeman as Rembrandt (official Selection in the 2007 Venice and Toronto Film Festivals), and the recently completed ‘Broken Lines’ starring Paul Bettany and Olivia Williams (official selection in the 2008 Venice and London Film Festivals). In 2008, Carlo produced 2000 Academy Award nominee Paul Morrison’s third feature ‘Little Ashes’ starring Robert Pattinson and Javier Beltran as Salvador Dali and Federico Garcia Lorca, which was released theatrically in the UK, US and Spain in May 2009 after a successful festival run, and went on to win the GLAAD Award 2010 as “Outstanding Film – Limited Release” and the “Best Film” Award at Verona’s 2010 Schermi D’Amore Film Festival. Carlo has since executive produced Alicia Duffy’s debut “All Good Children” for leading producer Jonathan Cavendish, which screened as part of this year’s Director’s Fortnight at Cannes. Carlo has lectured on film financing and production at various institutions including the London Film School and the Met Film School in Ealing Studios. In May 2006, Carlo was appointed to the role of Skillset’s Film Business Careers Advisor, and became a European Commission Media Programme assessor. Carlo regularly consults for a number of industry operators, including leading art-house distributor Axiom Films International and the media team of Amnesty International UK.
