Before becoming a filmmaker, Reem worked as a professional scuba diver, and a human rights officer
at the UN & other organisations. Later, she did an MA in Filmmaking at the London Film School, UK. She wrote and directed many award- winning short films which screened at festivals including TIFF & Whistler Film Festivals. Her multi-genres first feature film as a writer/producer and second as a director, Banned (AKA Hysteria), a Telefilm Talent
to Watch film, was shortlisted for Sundance Film Festival. She directed episodes of Virgins! (CBC Gem)
and is currently in development on Zahra’s Faces (NSI series incubator) and Sweet & Sore (Optioned) and
is a cowriter on the adaptation of the book Out of the Shadows into
a series. Her award-winning feature film script Bootleg participated
in many significant programmes such as l’Atelier at Cannes Film Festival, Berlinale Script Station, TIFF Talents, Realness, Nipkow Berlin Residency & TFL ComedyLab. She’s also an alumna of Women in the Director’s Chair 2014/15 and Canadian Film Centre’s Cineplex Residency 2015/16. She also participated at Break the Room Writers Room Programs and Warner Bros./Canadian Academy Director’s Program.
