Inri – Sura 21:83

A serial killer. A detective. Two crusades.

synopsis

Rome. A Moroccan young man is found crucified in an alley. Hands and feet nailed down, a cut on the forehead like a crown of thorns and a verse in ancient greek carved on his chest. The case is assigned to Enrico Parenti, a solitary detective with a dramatic past, and to Dario Bastati, a young officer sent directly from the Ministry. The victims will be many more, all Muslims crucified in the streets: the immediate suspect is a fanatic catholic who acts like a vigilante. Enrico knows Samuele, the suspect, because they spent their childhood together at the orphanage, but he cannot let Dario know that, because it would uncover a terrible secret. When they get to Samuele it is too late: he threw himself off a building. The killings start again and Dario suspects Enrico, uncovering his secrets till the last one: the crime scene is tattooed on his back. Hunted by the police, Enrico has only one hope: Claudio, his estranged son, converted to Islam and with a new father, Faik, the imam. Alone, Enrico will have to demonstrate he is not the serial killer who murdered, among the others, the husband of the woman he is falling for.

Director’statement

Can we be like Job, when life strikes us? The series analyses the irreconcilable contrast between divine and earthly justice. In the contemporary Rome, in which religious tensions animate social tensions, a story of men and women who have given different answers to this question unfolds, with terrible consequences for everyone involved.
