synopsis

La Chata, guided by Gustavo, a failed writer, joins Freeloaders School, a group of people that infiltrate elite events to gain false status and feed both ego and their stomach. Her first task is to attend a party hosted by multimillionaire Adam De Wassaige, the luxury event marks the introduction of a new ‘member’ of the family: Napoleon, a tiger club, a symbol of the family’s power. However, the club mysteriously disappears, leaving everyone in shock. At the same time, Elion De Wassainge, his son, is shot and falls into coma. Carlos Sandoval, leader of the freeloaders, changes plans and sends his daughter Candela to spy on Sofia Marcussen to get into new events, their enemy and the best luxury events’ organiser. As Candela forms a bond with Sofía, her desire to escape from the world of the school comes to light. La Chata seeks acceptance in the group, while Gustavo uses this chaos to write his life- changing novel about the freeloaders. Amid secrets and lies, the freeloaders question if their dreams are worth the price, especially as their past traumas surface.

Director’statement

This project takes a hilarious yet unique approach. The story is built on a strong premise, familiar yet surprising in its hidden depth. Freeloaders School falls into the comedy-drama genre with a crime twist. The humour leans on visual gags rather than dialogue. It follows characters with distinct dynamics, leading to various subplots with a shared goal: finding a place to belong, exploiting the wealthy for survival, and discovering their sense of purpose. White Lotus meets Big Little Lies. It’s more character- driven and serialised, with a unified plot where all the characters struggle against the same force. It explores the clash between societal classes, where the poor subtly exploit the rich. At the same time, while crime propels the story, it’s the characters’ desires and personal arcs that matter most. The key difference is the police presence through Sergeant Piña, who becomes enamored with the freeloaders’ lifestyle, aiming to be the city’s most corrupt cop in season two.
