Jianjie was on his way to become a bioengineer when the alluring world of cinema led him astray. He left China to study filmmaking at New York University. His short film A VISIT (2016) was screened at many international festivals and got distributed in Japan. GU (2017), recently completed, began its festival run at Foyle Film Festival, as well as the inaugural Pingyao International film festival (initiated by Chinese director Jia Zhangke). He is currently developing his debut feature film BLOOD AND WATER, for which he was selected by Berlinale Talents Tokyo, shortlisted by Sundance Screenwriter’s Lab, and awarded by Richard Vague Production Fund (USA).
