Cyril Schäublin (b. 1984 in Zurich), a descendant of watchmaking factory workers, left Switzerland in 2004 to live in Beijing, China. In 2006 he moved back to Europe to study cinema in Paris and Berlin, where he graduated at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb) in 2012. At the dffb, he was a student of Lav Diaz and James Benning and made several short films. After graduating, he worked as personal assistant for Palestinian director Kamal Aljafari. His first feature film DENE WOS GUET GEIT (Those who are fine, 2017) premiered in Locarno and Rotterdam to critical acclaim. The film received an invitation to New Directors / New Films at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, won the Award for Best International Feature Film at the 72nd Edinburgh International Film Festival and got a nomination for the European Film Awards 2018 (European Discovery). In 2018, “Dene wos guet geit” won the Zurich Film Award. He currently lives and works in Zurich.
