Horacio Alcalá began his acting career when he was 8 but his real interest lies behind the camera. He later joined the production team of Cirque du Soleil, where he worked on various shows such as Quidam and Corteo, while filming Grazing the Sky (A ras del cielo),
a documentary that has been screened internationally. In 2021, he premiered Finlandia, which earned him SIFF, Best Director. His projects draw inspiration from magical realism, where nature, cultures of different countries, and the unusual play significant roles.
