Giovanni Donfrancesco is a florentine director and producer with both italian and french citizenship. He currently lives in Paris most of the time. Originally a photographer, he turned to making films after spending several months in Selva Lacandona, Mexico, where he shot a documentary about the outbreak of the Zapatista uprising.
With a formal background in the humanities, he has published two novels and a book of photographs. He founded Altara Films, a production company that supports his own work and that of other film-makers. In France, he produces documentaries within the Paris based company Bocalupo Films. His works - as a director or producer - have been screened and sometimes awarded at a variety of international film festivals, such as Rotterdam IFF, Venice IFF, IDFA, Cinéma du Réel, Rome IFF, Dok Leipzig, Yerevan IFF, RIDM, IndieLisboa, It's All True IDF etc.
