Julie Skaufel

Norway

Biography

Julie Skaufel is a Norwegian screenwriter and director working primarily within character-driven comedy. Her work explores intimacy, identity and emotional contradiction through humor that is both bold and grounded in psychological truth. She has written for several acclaimed Norwegian and international television series, including Home for Christmas (Netflix), Christmas Stars (TV2 Norway) and Evy & Always (NRK). Across these projects, she has developed a distinct voice that combines romantic and situational comedy with emotional realism and contemporary themes. She made her feature directorial debut with Heim, a romantic comedy that allowed her to further explore ensemble storytelling and character-based humor in a cinematic format. The film marked an important step in shaping her visual language and comedic timing as both a writer and a director. With her upcoming projects, such as "Thunder Tits", she moves toward a more unapologetic and physically expressive comedic form. The project centers on female identity, generational shifts and the chaos that emerges when established roles collapse. Through escalating physical comedy and emotional exposure, the film examines what happens when women refuse to fade quietly into the background. Her approach to comedy is rooted in character rather than punchlines. She is interested in humor that emerges from sincerity, contradiction and loss of control, where the physical and the emotional collide. Selected for Torino Film Lab’s ComedyLab, she continues to develop her voice within bold, ensemble-driven storytelling, committed to pushing female-led comedy toward greater excess, honesty and cinematic scale.
