After working for several years as a producer and a communication and development manager in film and television, Maria Drandaki founded her own production label Homemade Films in 2009. With a taste for sharp, cutting edge, innovative cinema, Maria has produced and co-produced several successful short and feature films, which participated and won awards in many international film festivals and got distributed in movie theaters, tv-channels and platforms around the world. Her credits include Syllas Tzoumerkas’ internationally acclaimed feature films Homeland (Venice Critics’ Week 2010) and A Blast (Locarno International Competition 2014), Yorgos Zois’ awarded shorts Casus Belli (Venice Orizzonti 2010) and Out of Frame (Venice Orizzonti – Best European Short Film Award 2012), as well as his debut feature Interruption (Venice Orizzonti 2015), and the documentary One Step Ahead by Dimitris Athiridis (IDFA 2012). Her latest production, Konstantina Kotzamani’s new short film Limbo, had its world premiere at the Critics’ Week of the Cannes FF 2016 and was shortlisted for the European Film Awards 2016. Her in-development projects include, among others, Syllas Tzoumerkas’ new film The Miracle of the Sargasso Sea, Yorgos Zois’ Home and debut features Her Job by Nikos Labot, As He Lay Darkly by Ian Waugh (co-producer) and The Gulf by Emre Yeksan (co-producer). She is a member of the EAVE and ACE producers' networks and the Greek Producers' Alliance.
