Daan Gielis is a versatile screenwriter and creator for film and television. Her most recent credit, Máxima Season 2 (2026), has sold to over 70 territories and broke multiple records in the Netherlands.
Daan’s autobiographical debut feature La Holandesa (dir. Marleen Jonkman) premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, followed by its European premiere at IFFR. Her second feature Wasem (dir. Christian van Duuren) is in preproduction. Earlier, she wrote short films including Gamechanger (2016, dir. Christian van Duuren), which premiered at SXSW.
In 2021, Daan’s original miniseries Storm Lara (dir. Kadir Ferati Balci) launched on Belgian platform Streamz. In 2024, she was selected to pitch her high-end drama series Kiss My Feet - co-created with Mark van de Grift and produced by Big Blue - at the Series Mania Forum. Together with co-writer Lucy Macpherson-Mulcahy, she is currently developing feature film Leewa, as well as international series Fast Sand.
Before turning full-time to screenwriting, Daan built an all-round career in the international film industry. Still, she regularly mentors on project development and pitching for TorinoFilmLab, VAF, Cinekid, IFFR, and others.
