Daan Gielis is a screenwriter and creator for film and television. Her most recent credit is the successful series Máxima Season 2 (2026), with season 3 currently in production.
Daan’s autobiographical debut feature La Holandesa (dir. Marleen Jonkman) premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, followed by its European premiere at IFFR. Her second feature Wasem (dir. Christian van Duuren) is currently in late-stage development. Earlier, she wrote short films including Gamechanger (2016), which premiered at SXSW.
In 2021, Daan’s original miniseries Storm Lara (dir. Kadir Ferati Balci) launched on Belgian platform Streamz. In 2024, she was selected to pitch her high-end drama series Kiss My Feet - co-created with Mark van de Grift - at the Series Mania Forum. Together with co-writer Lucy Macpherson-Mulcahy, she is currently developing feature films Leewa and No Way Out.
Before turning full-time to screenwriting, Daan built an all-round career in the international film industry. She now regularly mentors on project development and pitching for TorinoFilmLab, VAF, Cinekid, IFFR and other international festivals and labs.
