Biography

Fabio Grassadonia's new film, "Sicilian Ghost Story", cowritten and codirected with Antonio Piazza has opened the Critics’ Week of the 2017 Cannes Film Festival and has secured distribution already in several countries all over the world. With the script of "Sicilian Ghost Story" they had won the prestigious 2016 Sundance Institute Global Filmmaking Award, given each year during the Sundance Film Festival “to honor emerging directors from different global regions who possess the originality, talent and vision to be celebrated as the future of world cinema”. "Sicilian Ghost Story" has won the Nastro d'Argento (Silver Ribbon) for Best Cinematography and for Best Set Design and is nominated for Best Directing and Best Production. Their first feature film "Salvo" - developed at TorinoFilmLab - premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, winning both top prizes of La Semaine de la Critique, the Grand Prix and the Prix Révélation. The film secured distribution in about 25 countries, including the US, where, among other festivals, it was also presented at the Chicago International Film Festival and in New York City at the MoMA and at the Lincoln Center in the frame of the New Directors/New Films Festival. In Italy "Salvo" won the Nastro d'Argento (Silver Ribbon) for Best Cinematography, the Italian Golden Globe for Best Actress and four nominations for the David di Donatello Awards (the Italian Oscars).
