Julia Kolberger studied English language and literature, film studies, and applied linguistics in Tours and in Paris. She graduated in directing from the Polish National Film School in Łódź. She has made the following short films:
"Mi mama nie przeszkadza" ("Mother Doesn’t Disturb Me", 10’; 2005), "Powiedz mi coś jeszcze" ("Tell Me More", 15’; 2006), "Przez dotyk" ("Tactility" 14’; 2007), "Trening" ("The Training", 12’; 2008), "Jutro mnie tu nie będzie" ("I won't be here tomorrow", 30’; 2010) and "The Easter Crumble", 30’; 2013 ("Mazurek"). "The Training" (2008) won the main prize at the Łodzią po Wiśle festival in 2008. "I won't be here tomorrow" (2010), her graduation film, won a number of awards, including the Second Prize at the Kustendorf International Film Festival in Serbia, a Golden Tadpole at Camerimage 2010, a Special Prize in the Young Polish Cinema competition at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, the first prize at the Polish Film Festival in New York, and the third prize at the Łodzią po Wiśle festival in 2010.
"The Easter Crumble" (2013) won the prize for best short film at the "Młodzi i Film" festival in Koszalin, "Dwa Brzegi" festival in Kazimierz Dolny, as well as the Special Prize in the Young Polish Cinema competition at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. It received a total of ten prizes at various festivals in Poland. It was also awarded the “Bridging The Borders” prize at the Polish Film Festival in Los Angeles 2013 and the Silver Egg Award at the Küstendorf International Film Festival in Serbia, 2014.
