Green Latam Lab

Green Latam Lab

Green Latam Lab is aimed at Latin American film professionals who wish to develop their skills by working on a concrete sustainability plan for a fiction feature film.

WHAT IS GREEN LATAM LAB

Green Latam Lab, organised in collaboration with Bocacha Films, is aimed at Latin American film professionals who wish to develop their skills by working on a concrete sustainability plan for a fiction feature film. The programme provides knowledge and practical tools to enhance professional competencies and increase the project's potential, specifically within the Latin American context. Participants will develop sustainability plans for 3 selected fiction feature projects currently in pre-production and scheduled to be shot within the next 9 months.

The programme is aimed at:

- Producers with a fiction feature project in pre-production (scheduled to be shot within the next 9 months), as well as producers without a current project who are interested in developing green practices on set, learning how to integrate green strategies into their productions, and engaging their crews effectively.
Producers with a project may apply alone or together with the crew member responsible for implementing the sustainability strategy on set.

- Crew members (e.g., production assistants, production coordinators, line producers) who wish to gain practical knowledge on how to implement environmentally-friendly measures on set, following the producer’s guidance, and upskill their profiles with the competencies needed to manage the day-to-day workflow during production.

- Delegates from funds, film commissions, and film institutions who are interested in acquiring tools to inform policy development and implementation.

THE PROGRAMME

Green Latam Lab welcomes 3 film projects and 12 film professionals, who will work in groups with the support of field experts. Over the course of five days, each group will develop a sustainability plan for one fiction feature film project. Each group will consist of: one producer with a project, one producer without a project, one crew member (whether attached to the project or not), and one delegate.

While defining a concrete sustainability plan, participants will explore how to apply current best practices in areas such as energy efficiency, transportation, accommodation, catering, set decoration, waste management, recycling, and sustainable communication.

Throughout the process, they will have the opportunity to network with fellow Latin American professionals who share an interest in sustainability, while also experiencing the collaborative work dynamics needed to implement green filming practices.

The training course will combine plenary sessions, case studies, group works, and networking opportunities.
