Biography

Arne Kohlweyer was born in 1981 in Wolgast (Island of Usedom, East-Germany) and grew up in Berlin. In 2008 he finished his post-graduate studies in film directing at FAMU in Prague. Prior to that he studied photography in Graz, Austria, literature in Frankfurt/Oder and film theory at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. Arne has made various short films, directed for German television and got 2017 nominated for the prestigious Grimme-Award (equivalent to the German Emmys). He was a Berlinale Talent, a participant of the European Short Pitch and the Locarno Summer Academy. In 2014 he took part in a 9-month training as Story editor in the framework of the Torino Film Lab. In 2017/18 he developed the drama series concept MOTHER'S GOT A GUN in the framework of the Midpoint TV LAUNCH. Arne has managed the Script Station (Screenwriter’s project lab of Berlinale Talents) from 2011 till 2018. Additionally he acted as Head of development for 42film from 2014 till 2018. As associate producer he was e.g. part of ÁGA (by Milko Lazarov, Berlinale Competition 2018) and LEMONADE (by Ioana Uricaru, Berlinale Panorama 2018). He lives and works as an independent screenwriter and script consultant in Basel, Switzerland.
