Biography

María Zamora's career in film spans more than two decades. With more than fifteen feature films under her belt as a producer, her work includes titles such as ‘’Mapa’’, by León Siminiani, ‘’They Are All Dead’’, by Beatriz Sanchís, ‘’María (and Everybody Else)’’, by Nely Reguera, ‘’The Days to Come’’, by Carlos Marqués-Marcet, ‘’My Mexican Bretzel’’, by Nuria Giménez Lorang, and ‘’Amar’’, by Esteban Crespo. María Zamora also produced ‘’Libertad’’, Clara Roquet's debut film presented at Cannes Critics' Week, and Carla Simón's ‘’Summer 1993’’ and ‘’Alcarràs’’, that awarded the Golden Bear at the Berlinale 2022 and was nominated for European Film and European Screenwriter at the European Film Awards. In 2021, María Zamora creates together with Enrique Costa (until that moment, the executive producer and founding partner of Avalon P.C. and the head of acquisitions and founding partner of Avalon D.A., respectively). Elastica's commitment is to auteur and independent cinema, maintaining its faithful commitment to films of high cinematographic quality and supporting new directors. María Zamora's career has been shaped around giving a voice to emerging female directors making independent films. Recently, she has participated in the production of the feature films ‘’Creatura’’ (Label Europa Cinemas, Quinzaine des Cinéastes 2023) and ‘’O Corno’’ (Golden Shell, San Sebastian International Film Festival 2023), by directors Elena Martín and Jaione Camborda, respectively. In addition, she is the producer of ‘’Hildegart’’ by Paula Ortiz and ‘’La mitad de Ana’’ by Marta Nieto. Both projects were shot during summer 2023 and will be released next year. Finally, María Zamora is working on the development and pre-production of ‘’Las madres no’’ by Mar Coll and ‘’Romería’’ by Carla Simón. María Zamora, in addition to her usual attendance at festivals and markets with her own projects, has attended several international festivals as a jury member. She participated in Cannes Critics' Week in 2022 and was president in 2021 of the Horizontes Latinos section at San Sebastian Festival, among others. She is also a member of the EFA, member of the board of directors of AECINE and graduate and national coordinator at EAVE.
