Marco Borromei was born in Messina, on 20th April 1986. He completed a BA in Literature at Università degli Studi di Messina and then he graduated in Film Studies at Università degli Studi La Sapienza, in Rome. He then studied screenwriting at Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia di Roma (CSC), from 2013 to 2015.
His graduation project from CSC, the short movie “The Sleeping Saint” by Laura Samani, was selected for the Cinéfondation competition at Cannes Film Festival (2016). His first feature film is “We'll be young and beautiful” by Letizia Lamartire, which was selected by Venice Film Festival in the section Settimana Internazionale della Critica (2018). He wrote the series “Skam Italia” season 2 with the director Ludovico Bessegato and collaborated also with season 3 (2018/2019). He also wrote Laura Samani's first feature film “Small Body”, which has been selected by Cannes Film Festival in the section Semaine de la Critique (2021) and has been awarded with the David di Donatello for best emerging director and the European Discovery - Prix FIPRESCI at EFA (2022). He is a member of European Film Academy since 2023.
