Therese, the mayor’s wife in a remote Lebanese village, joyfully prepares for an overnight visit of her daughter's suitor and his parents. She shares the happy news of the engagement with her brother who is bizarrely present in every corner of her house, only in pictures, and strangely enough, always talks back to her.
The special guests are at her doorstep when she learns they are Syrian; a detail that wouldn’t have been a problem if a Syrian bomb did not kill her beloved brother during the war.
Feeling betrayed by her daughter and husband who deliberately hid the truth from her, Therese decides; this proposal will only happen over her dead body. She discreetly plans crazy schemes to kick the unwanted guests out, and on the way she finds herself facing another trap: her own marriage.
