Artemis Shaw is a filmmaker
and educator from New York
City interested in tragicomedy, docufiction, and works in collaboration. She holds a BA from Columbia University with honors
in Art History, and an MFA/MBA Dual Degree in Filmmaking from New York University. Her short
film work includes Single Room Occupancy (2016), Aquaculture (2017), Safari Video (2018), and Real Talk (2020). Her debut feature, New Strains (2023), won a Special Jury Award in International Film Festival Rotterdam’s Tiger Competition
and is distributed by MEMORY.
Her second feature, Removal of
the Ete, is in post-production.
She was selected for Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Film, and participated in Venice Biennale College Cinema and TorinoFilmLab. Shaw has taught film and run education programmes at Tribeca Film Institute, Ghetto Film School, Museum of the Moving Image,
New York University, and currently Virginia Commonwealth University.
