Jonas Carpignano (16.01.1984) is a writer/director who spent his childhood between Rome and New York City. His work has been shown in prestigious film festivals including Cannes, Venice, Sundance and the New York Film Festival. His two short films A Chjàna and A Ciambra have won many international awards including the Controcampo Award at the 68th Venice Film Festival, The Discovery Award at the 53rd Semaine De La Critique at Cannes and a Nastro D'argento Special mention from the SNGCI. He is best know for directing the feature film Mediterranea which had it's world premiere at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival( Semaine De La Critique) where it garnered rave reviews from many publications such as The Guardian, IndieWire and Il Foglio. The script for Mediterranea was developed with the support of the Sundance Writers and Directors labs, and it won the Sundance/Mahindra Global Filmmaking Award. Since then the film has screened at festivals around the world including the BFI London Film Festival, The Munich Film Festival where the film received a special mention, and Jameson Cinefest where the film won the C.I.C.A.E Award. Mediterranea is also finalist for the European Parliaments LUX Film Prize. In the fall/winter of 2015 Mediterranea will be released theatrically in over twelve territories including France ( HAUT ET COURT), Germany (DCM) and the US ( IFC FILM/SUNDANCE SELECTS).
