Laurie Lassalle

Laurie Lassalle is a filmmaker, editor and musician born on July 6th 1984 in Paris. She graduated in Litterature, Fine Arts and Cinema at the University La Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris. She started her directing career by making music videos for artists such as Melody's Echo Chamber, Judah Warsky, Mina Tindle, La Féline, as well as for her former band My Girlfriend is Better than Yours. She then went on to work on documentaries and she is also a film editor, assisting notably François Quiqueré on Serge Bozon's La France (Director's Fortnight, Cannes 2006). In 2014, she directed her first mid-length film produced by Haïku Films, "I Made My Own Course Down the Passive Rivers", a fiction selected at the Critic’s Week at Cannes in 2014, at the International films Festival of Amiens, the mid-lenght films festival of Brive, awarded for the best cinematography at the 3rd Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival-14. She was awarded by the Moulin d'Andé-Céci, after the first Next Step programme 2014 and she’s a resident at Le Moulin d'Andé in 2015. She is currently working on her feature-length screenplay, Sweet Monsters (fiction) and a creative documentary, in collaboration with the association Mille Visages, for whom she works (2015-2016) with young inhabitants of the parisian suburbs. Her work is informed by a desire to establish a feminine and sensual gaze that is both visual and poetic. She is drawn to painting, words and music, which fuel her cinematic work. Because a movie, in the end, is always a color and a melody.
