Piero Messina was born in Caltagirone (Sicily) in 1981. He graduated in film directing at Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. He realize several short films and documentaries. His works take part in important international cinema festivals, such as Terra (65° Festival de Cannes – Cinéfondation, best actor Gjion Int. Film Festival), La prima Legge di Newton (Jury Special mention at Festival Internazionale del Film di Roma), La porta (Rotterdam International Film Festival), Pirrera (Libero Bizzari Award, Rome Film Festival and Festival dei Popoli), So far So close (Zebra film Poetry – Berlin), Un altra volta (Milano Film Festival), Stidda ca curri (winner at Taormina Film Festival). He also made several documentaries aired on Rai channels. He was Paolo Sorrentino’s assistant on the film This Must be the Place and is currently working with him on his next feature La Grande Bellezza. As musician he composed several soundtracks: he wrote the soundtrack for La tarda estate (Venice Film Festival) and for the documentary La minaccia (nominated for David di Donatello Award).
