Biography

Matheus is a Brazilian screenwriter and director. His films have been screened and discussed at festivals, seminars and institutions including the Venice Film Festival, Rotterdam, Tiradentes, IndieLisboa, BFI London, Toulouse, Cine Ceará, Aspen, Melbourne, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Yale University, Instituto Moreira Salles and the Cinemateca Uruguaia. They received the award for Best Director at the 11th Noida International Film Festival, the ward for Best Health and Wellness Film at the Ponza Film Awards 2024, the Canal RPT2 Acquisition Award at Curta Cinema 2012, honorable mentions at the Covent Garden Film Festival 2024, the Mumbai International Shorts Festival 2023, Cine Tamoio 2019, the SIGNIS Award at the Havana Film Festival 2012, the Los Angeles International Latino Film Festival 2013 and were nominated for the Youtube Award at Venice 2012 and the Golden Firebird Award at the Hong Kong Short Film Festival 2013. As a screenwriter, Matheus was awarded the Núcleos Criativos 2016, the Prêmio Estímulo 2015 and the Fundo de Intercâmbio do MINC 2013. He is the creator of the three-season comedy series No Divã do Dr. Kurtzman (Canal Brasil 2013-15), which he wrote and directed with Bruno Kott. He directed the essay film While we were talking about political performativities I occasionally stole voices and faces, commissioned by the São Paulo International Theater Festival 2019. He is currently post-producing her new short film, while financing her first feature film and developing a new series.
