Biography

Blaž Kutin was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and is currently based in Berlin. He graduated in Ethnology and Sociology of Culture from the University of Ljubljana. He has worked as writer, film critic, journalist and translator. His work as abstract photographer has resulted in several exhibitions of his works in Berlin, London and New York. His book of short stories will be published in early 2017. For his feature film screenplay "Lara" he won the Media New Talent of the European Union Award, presented at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as the Sarajevo Film Festival CineLink Award. He directed, co-wrote and produced his feature debut film "We've Never Been to Venice". The film had its world premiere in the lineup of the Sarajevo Film Festival 2008, and competed at numerous film festivals around the world, among others in Torino, Goteborg, Premiers plans, Cape Winelands (jury special mention) and Estoril. His short film “Warm for This Time of Year” (2011) premiered in competition at the Sarajevo Film Festival and was selected to a retrospective of best contemporary shorts from ex-Yugoslavia at the Festival de cinema europeen des arcs 2013. He is currently preparing his next feature film “Estonia”, which is planned to be shot in 2017 as German production. He is also co-writer on Jan-Ole Gerster’s adaptation of Christian Kracht’s novel “Imperium”.
