Biography

37 years old Yona Rozenkier is an Israeli-French-Swiss director, born and raised in kibbutz Yehiam, currently living in Tel Aviv. He graduated from the Steve Tisch School of Film and Television in Tel-Aviv. His first feature film THE DIVE (2018) won 4 awards in Jerusalem International Film Festival (including Best Feature AAward), won 2 awards in Locarno, and screened in other festivals, among them: Toronto IFF, AFI Fest, Jeonju IFF, Warsaw IFF, Seattle IFF and others. His feature script "Decompression" won the First Prize in the Jerusalem International Sam Spiegel Film Lab 2016, took part in Cannes Atelier 2017, and won the pitch point award at JFF 2017. The project is currently in Pre-Production as an Israeli-France-Swiss co-production. The feature script "Siberia", received development grant from the Israeli Film Fund 2019, took part in TorinoFilmLab ScriptLab, EAVE and in the Pop Up Film Residency 2020. Yona is the co-writer of KIBBUTZNIKIM (40 episodes), a daily drama created for HOT (Israeli Cable). He is the writer and director of BUTTERFLIES (short film, 8 min, 2019), selected at Cannes’ official short film competition, TIFF, Aspen, Fantasia and WE ARE ONE among others and sold to HBO Europe; as well as the co-writer and director of THE SIGN (short film, 12 min, 2019), selected at Cannes’ Director’s Fortnight 2019 as part of the annual opening omnibus “The SEE Factory” which was screened In Sarajevo FF among others. His previous short films have been screened in numerous festivals including Venice International Film Festival (Critics' Ceek), Busan IFF, Clermont Ferrand IFF and more.
