From the Meeting Event stage in 2021 fast-forward to the Venetian most prestigious screening rooms of the Competition: the Italian director Maura Delpero is ready to present VERMIGLIO - written during ScriptLab 2021 and awarded with the ArteKino International. Her first feature, Maternal has been supported by the TFL Audience Design Fund back in 2019.
Moving to the Orizzonti section, POOJA, SIR by the Nepalese Deepak Rauniyar will premiere at the Festival after having received the TFL Audience Design Fund in 2024, supporting the distribution stage.
The synopsis: When two boys are kidnapped in a border town in Nepal, Detective Inspector Pooja is sent from Kathmandu to solve the case. But when she arrives, the brewing political unrest and violent protests throw her off course and she is forced to seek help from Mamata, a local Madhesi policewoman. By putting aside systemic discrimination and pushing through everyday misogyny, the women solve the case - but at what personal cost? Inspired by real events which took place in Southern Nepal during the 2015 race protests.
Finally, the Orizzonti Extra section will feature SEEKING HAVEN FOR MR. RAMBO, first film of the Egyptian filmmaker Khaled Mansour, which joined the Red Sea Lodge programme in 2021.
We wish to congratulate also with our alumnus Yeo Siew Hua presenting its Stranger Eyes in the main competition and with the current ScriptLab participant Andrea Gatopoulos opening the Settimana Internazionale della Critica (SIC) with its short film The Eggregores' Theory, realised making use of the AI.
Still from VERMIGLIO by Maura Delpero.
