Laurette Schillings

Laurette Schillings is one of 3 producing partners at Topkapi Films since 2003. Topkapi was established in 1996 and since then it (co)produced over 120 film and drama titles. Over the past years Topkapi has continued to diversify its activities; as well as powerful feature films, we focus on (high-end) TV drama, nonfiction series and hybrids, intensifying our ties with broadcasters and setting up collaborations with (S)VOD partners. We have built a large international network, recently coproducing a.o. Girl (Lukas Dhont), Another Round (Thomas Vinterberg) and Benedetta (Paul Verhoeven). These connections have cemented our solid position in terms of international financing options and platforms for distribution, demonstrated by a.o. Layla M.=. (2016, TIFF, Netflix worldwide) and Instinct starring Carice van Houten and Marwan Kenzari, (2019, Locarno Piazza Grande, worldwide sales). Our strategy focuses on quality of development, innovative storytelling, national initiative, international visibility and developing talent and long-term collaborations. Topkapi’s Black Book (2006, directed by Paul Verhoeven), Love Is All (2007), Joy (2010) and Black Butterflies (2011) won their respective years’ Golden Calf (‘Dutch Oscar’) for Best Feature Film. Topkapi was an international co-producer on such films as Carlos Reygadas’s Silent Light (2007) and Post Tenebras Lux (2012), Felix van Groeningen’s The Misfortunates (2009) and the Oscar-nominated The Broken Circle Breakdown (2012), Thomas Vinterberg’s The Commune, Tim Mielants’s Patrick (2019), and Paul Verhoeven’s Benedetta (2021). Topkapi is currently in post-production on Turbulent Skies, an upcoming major period drama series on the founding fathers of Dutch aviation: KLM Dutch Royal Airlines founder Albert Plesman and legendary aircraft manufacturer Anthony Fokker. Topkapi’s (co-)productions have been screened at, among many other film festivals, Cannes, Sundance, Tribeca, New York Film Festival, Toronto, Berlinale, Venice, Rotterdam, Locarno, San Sebastián, Palm Springs, Chicago, Telluride, London, Busan, Torino, Warsaw, Sarajevo, Aspen Short Film Festival, AFI Fest, and the Netherlands Film Festival.
