As you may know, turning 18 years old represents a huge milestone in many countries, and Italy is certainly one of them. TorinoFilmLab, welcome to true adulthood!
As we grow, we can’t help but be caught between two moments: the awareness of becoming older yet more solid, and a deep look back at our past and everything it represented that has shaped us into the Lab you know today.
And here we are, taking advantage of the coziest time of the year with two viewing suggestions for you, available for free on Festival Scope:
THE FOUR TIMES by Michelangelo Frammartino, which premiered at the Quinzaine des cinéastes at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival and was developed in the very first edition of FeatureLab in 2008, winning the TFL Production Award (€ 150,000).
THE BRINK OF DREAMS by Nada Riyadh & Ayman El Amir, which was presented during Cannes' Semaine de la Critique in 2024 and was supported by the TFL Audience Design Fund (€ 45,000) last year.
Finally, in this context, we also launched a special award this year to support our community: the TFL Alumni Grant, aimed at TFL projects or new works by previous participants.
The two projects awarded the € 40,000 contribution were: Nightsong by Maya Da-Rin, produced by Juliette Lepoutre; and Soon We Will All Be History Here by Saeed Taji Farouky, produced with Maria Caruana Galizia.
At its core, TFL has always been about one thing since day one: celebrating and supporting the people who have honored us by sharing their stories with us. The films of our alumni and alumnae and their achievements are, quite simply, the most meaningful testament to our work over the years.
